A versatile singing actor with a wide range of styles – Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Offenbach – powerful, mellow baritone with good diction. A convincing comedian, straight man or tragedian.

Joe started his singing studies in 1984 after a career as a software engineer (B.Mus. Hons. Surrey, B.Sc.Econ. Hons., UCL, M.Sc. Comp.Sci., London, FBCS, CITP), and has taught singing since 2002: full member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians since 2004. He is also a composer of songs, opera and oratorio (music published by Robosoft Music  and many examples available on youtube - check out The Tempest The Tempest   and his Christina Rossetti songs Third Sad Song   ), a translator of opera libretti, an opera and film director (the recent film of his third opera ‘Through the Looking Glass’ is available on two DVDs from Robosoft Music )

Professor Henry Higgins in ‘My Fair Lady’ (Lerner and Loewe) with BLOS at the Nomads Theatre Horsely. “Joe St.Johanser brought a better singing voice …than the original by Rex Harrison …some very polished acting and a stage presence which gave great authority to the role” critic Derrick Graham.

Dulcamara in 'The Elixir of Love' (Donnizetti) with Guildford Opera Company at the Electric Theatre Guildford. "In stetson and frock coat Joe St.Johanser as Dulcamara seized the moment and held the stage" Surrey Advertiser.

Swallow in "Peter Grimes" (Britten) at the Point Theatre, Eastleigh. A workshop performance of about half the opera, with Nina Walker and Richard Gregson.

Jack Point in "Yeomen of the Guard" (Sullivan) with Woking Operatic at the Queen Elizabeth II Theatre, Woking. The Woking Review said " Joe St. Johanser played Jack Point, the fool, and here was star quality, with swiftly spoken Shakespearean-style foolery, the delicate dancing and the final poignant moment when he doesn’t get the girl - a performance to be remembered".
